30% INVESTMENT ALLOWANCE FOR NEW PLANT & EQUIPMENT

 

As part of the Federal Governments Economic Stimulus Package, the government will allow small business an additional tax deduction (30% or 10%) for all new plant and equipment ordered and installed between 13 December and 31 December 2010.

 

Specifically the 30% portion of the allowance applies to those items purchased and installed before 30 June 2009.

 

For those likely to be in a tax paying situation this financial year the Investment Allowance represents a great “once off” opportunity to acquire working assets whilst at the same time taking advantage of a useful tax deduction.

 

The item must be new and be used in Australia. This may include expenditure on motor vehicles although where a car costs more than $57,180 a limit of $17,154 will apply. The allowance cannot be claimed on rental properties, intangible assets (including software) and on some primary production items, however most items of plant and equipment will qualify including those that are 100% financed.
